Is there a difference between Cambridge and Local உ/த Science subjects?

Is there a difference between Cambridge Science A/L and Local science A/L. If so does it apply for all 3 subjects. That is Chemistry, physics, Biology

The truth is it is al about what it is that you would like to do after your A lvels.

If applying for a degree at a university outside Sri Lanka, then the Cambridge A levels will help. It applies to all science subjects.

The difference is that the Cambridge A level syllabus is a little more than the Local and may require a little more understanding and a little more of English. You need to be good at English to be able to do the Cambridge A levels etc.

You can approach me for any help.
I tutor English and every science subject up to the A levels. I can also help with biology subjects during your university studies.

Thank you.

Local science a/l has 3 major subjects such as chemistry physics & C.Maths / Biology.
But Cambridge science means there will be two parts of it. One is AS and the other one is A2. For both you have to study one year each. Therefore the subjects differ such as P1 & P2 for pure and M1 & M2 for mechanics. For Bio also the same. But chemistry and physics are the same yet have two parts such as part one and part two. And most of all the syllabus is a little different from locals. As my experience locals is little harder than the Cambridge.

There is a difference in many ways which local students complain it is difficult. One difference is in locals calculators are not provided. The other difference when it comes to paper, you wont get the equation or chemical reaction sheets but all you have to remember. And in questions also in locals they sort of straightaway ask a question and in Cambridge would divide the question into many parts so the students are well guided throughout the question. Syllabus content does not differ much except for few parts missing in both locals and Cambridge. But in biology I think locals have a bit more than Cambridge.

Cambridge biology syllabus is very different to the local syllabus.
Cambridge has very little plant biology comparatively. And Cambridge As has a practical test, unlike local or even edexcel.
Cambridge biology is a bit tougher than local I feel.

Whatever it is one must know the subject well then if there is any diversion then they can tolerate it. Chemistry is Chemistry, whatever it is and the level can be high or low.
