The Role
We require a teacher in Cambridge ESOL to deliver ESOL to a variety of learners at all levels including school learners, school leavers, EET, Commercial and Job Centres or similar provision from outside agencies. Teaching full time and part time learners in a range of settings including offsite/workplace/vocational.
What we are looking for
You should have a qualification such as the university degree or a Diploma in Education and Training (DET) on specialist teaching qualification focused on English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)- Level subject specialist qualification in ESOL or a willingness to work towards. You must have experience of teaching in a further education (FE) environment (teaching in colleges, training centres, or adult learning environments - not just schools) and experience of teaching ESOL, ideally including a variety of settings such as;
* Commercial settings (e.g., workplace English classes)
* Job Centre Plus (for unemployed people)
* EET provision (young people in Education, Employment, or Training)
* Other outside agencies (like community groups, NGOs, charities, etc.)
Duties and Responsibilities
. Planning and Delivery
* Plan and deliver high-quality ESOL lessons tailored to learners’ abilities and needs.
* Develop engaging lesson plans using a variety of teaching methods, resources, and technology.
* Adapt teaching approaches for different learning styles and abilities.
. Assessment and Progress Tracking
* Assess learners’ skills and progress regularly through formal and informal methods.
* Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress, and assessment outcomes.
* Provide constructive feedback to learners to support their development.
. Curriculum and Course Development
* Contribute to the design and development of ESOL courses and resources.
* Ensure course content aligns with accreditation standards and the needs of learners.
. Learner Support
* Provide individual support and guidance to learners facing challenges.
* Help learners access additional support services when needed.
. Classroom Management
* Create a safe, inclusive, and motivating learning environment.
* Promote positive behaviour and engagement in the classroom.
. Professional Development
* Keep up to date with ESOL teaching methodologies, resources, and sector developments.
* Attend training sessions, team meetings, and professional development activities.
. Collaboration
* Work closely with colleagues, support staff, and external agencies.
* Participate in planning and curriculum discussions with the wider team.
. Compliance and Administration
* Ensure compliance with institutional policies, safeguarding, and health and safety regulations.
* Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time, including reporting and documentation.
. Community and Outreach (if applicable)
* Engage with local communities, employers, or partner organisations to support ESOL initiatives.
* Contribute to workshops or events promoting ESOL learning and cultural integration.
. Preparation for Cambridge ESOL Examinations
* Design and deliver focused preparation sessions to help learners succeed in Cambridge ESOL exams.
* Familiarise students with exam formats, assessment criteria, and strategies for success.
* Provide regular practice tests and individual guidance to track readiness and improvement.
. Conduct Workshops
* Plan, organise, and conduct ESOL workshops or short courses independently.
* Develop workshop materials, activities, and assessments to meet specific learning objectives.
* Engage learners actively and manage all aspects of the workshop, including timing, participation, and evaluation.
