Mowbray College was founded on the 17th of May 1922 by the Ceylon Church Missionary Society (CMS). Originally opened as a training home for Bible women it later developed into an integrated English medium boarding school with students from Borella Girls’ School, Colombo and Snuggery School, Kandy. The founding of Mowbray College attributed to two ladies from the Church Missionary Society in South Africa. Miss. Earp and Miss. Denyer coming from a C.M.S centre in South Africa named “Mowbray” had no hesitance in naming this missionary enterprise at Rajapihilla Mawatha with the same name.
