In 1959, a small group of professionals founded our Institute with the objective of developing the profession of Personnel Management.
Subsequently the Institute was incorporated by an Act of Parliament in 1976.

With the small beginnings in 1959, the Institute has developed into the leading Human Resource authority in Sri Lanka. During this period, the Institute has contributed significantly to develop and nurture the Human Resource Management profession.

Whilst catering to the needs of the Membership specially in regard to the upgrading of their knowledge and skills, the Institute has conducted a wide range of professional courses which include the prestigious IPM Professional Qualification in Human Resource Management and thereby train quality HR professionals required by the country. Although the years have brought many changes in the profession, the Institute is firmly committed to Management and Development.
