The Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka(VTA) was established on 16th August 1995 under the provisions of the Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka Act No.12 of 1995.It was a concept of His Excellency the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa when he was the Hon. Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. VTA was established with the intent to provide skills for employment. The Manpower Division, the training arm of Labor Department which was running Technical and Vocational training programs in many parts of Sri Lanka, this was converted to the newly constitute Vocational Training Authority (VTA) making vocational training more accessible to rural youth and depressed segments in the country.
Subjects and Courses
Full time courses (පූර්ණ කාලීන පාඨමාලා)

Full time courses are conducting from 8.30 am to 4.15 pm week days. VTA is conducting NVQ and NON NVQ courses through island-wide centres in various trades. Full time course duration may vary from 3-months to 18 months
VTA ආයතනය මගින් පුර්ණ කාලීන පාඨමාලා විශාල ප්රමානයක් දිවයින පුරා මධ්යස්ථාන ගණනාවක පවත්වා ගෙන යන අතර මෙම පාඨමාලා සතියේ දින වල උදේ 8.30 සිට සවස 4.15 දක්වා දිනපතා පැවැත්වේ. මෙම පාඨමාලා NVQ හෝ NVQ නොවන (NON-NVQ) ලෙස පවත් වනු ලබයි. අදාළ ක්ෂේත්ර වලට අනුකුලව පූර්ණ කාලීන පාඨමාලා කාලය මාස-3 සිට මාස-18 දක්වා වෙනස් වේ.

Part time courses are conducting in various trades in VTA. Further, VTA is conducting NVQ and -NON NVQ courses through island-wide centres. Part time course duration may vary from 1 month to 12 months VTA ආයතනය මගින් අර්ධ කාලීන පාඨමාලා විශාල ප්රමානයක් විවිධ ක්ෂේත්රයන් ඔස්සේ දිවයින පුරා මධ්යස්ථාන ගණනාවක පවත්වා ගෙන යන අතර මෙම පාඨමාලා සතියේ දින වල හෝ සති අන්තයේ පැවැත්වේ. මෙම පාඨමාලා NVQ හෝ NVQ නොවන(NON-NVQ) ලෙස පවත් වනු ලබයි. අදාළ ක්ෂේත්ර වලට අනුව අර්ධ කාලීන පාඨමාලා කාලය මාස-1 සිට මාස-12 දක්වා වෙනස් වේ.
