St. Vincent's Technical School and Home, Maggona, Sri Lanka, is an
Institute for under privileged children, founded in 1881 by the Oblate
missionary Priests as the first Social Service Institute to be
established in Sri Lanka. To provide guidance and training to these
children, St Vincent's Home is managed by resident Priests &
Brothers of the Congregation of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate (OMI).
The Institute provides education, clothing, medical, board &
lodging. Some of the children are orphans, while some are
abandoned by their families due to financial or personal reasons,
children living in difficult circumstances in their homes, some
traumatised and unmanageable at home due to socio/economic reasons. The
children are sent here by the Department of Probation & Child
Care and the Juvenile Courts of Sri Lanka. We have a
Technical/Vocational Training School and courses are conducted in
printing, carpentry, welding, automobile mechanism, electrical
maintenance, to name a few.
