Position Overview :
- The program officer, literacy is responsible for working
with Room to Read staff, as well as local and external consultants on
all aspects of developing and implementing a literacy program that is
in line with Room to Reads new strategic plan focusing on
literacy. In collaboration with the country program director,
country reading Room and local language publishing staff, the global
literacy team, the program officer will support the research,
development and design of the program. This position will
report directly to the program manager of literacy.
Job Profile :
- Support the literacy team in conducting research on
reading/literacy theories and strategies for reading instruction and
promotion. This will include research and understanding of
the government curriculum, existing reading instruction programs,
pre-service and in-service teacher professional development focused on
reading/literacy training programs, etc
- Support the literacy team on literacy program activities
- Support in organizing consultations with governments, NGOs
and other stakeholders working on literacy efforts. This will
include meetings, site visits etc.
- Assist in developing instruction material, assist in
analyzing program monitoring and evaluation data,
- Support the documentation of best practices and lessons
learned during field work.
- Support budgeting for the program
- Support internal reporting regarding the status and
progress of the program
- Support donor proposal and report writing
- Assist with planning and coordination of internal
conferences, meetings and trainings related to programs. This
includes developing training materials and workshops
- Assist global literacy team in capacity building programs
for country program teams
- Arrange travel logistics for program staff and conferences,
meetings and trainings
- Administrative and team support as needed.
Personal/Skill profile
- Bachelors degree in the relevant field
- Minimum of five years of relevant experience
- Good verbal and written communications skills in Sinhalese
language
- Prior experience working on projects in primary education,
preferably on reading/literacy or learning improvement programs
- Experience in successful implementation of a wide range of
tasks and excellent computer skills
- Prior success working closely and building relationships
with diverse groups of people
- Effectiveness in working or volunteering in a non-profit
organization that is focused on maintaining high quality work and low
overhead
- Ability to take initiative and juggle multiple priorities
simultaneously

Compensation
- The salary range for the above position will be determined
based upon the qualifications, experience of the candidate
hired. EPF, ETF, health and accident insurance as will as
eligibility to participate in Room to Reads performance bonus programme
