About the institute
The Photographic Society of Sri Lanka (PSSL), located at the Lionel
Wendt Memorial Art Centre, Guildford Crescent, Colombo has been
providing educational and training programs for many years, and is the
foremost institution sought after by photographic enthusiasts and
hobbyists. The Certificate Course in Photography conducted by PSSL has
attracted a wide variety of participants from top corporate executives,
lawyers, doctors, persons in technical or IT fields to housewives and
students from local and international schools.
Having been set up to foster Photography as Hobby and an Art and a
Craft, PSSL as it is today, has a rich history dating back to when
The Ceylon Amateur Photographic Association was formed by Henry Lorenz
Wendt, father of the famous Sri Lankan photographer, artist and
musician Lionel Wendt. Later it was renamed as Photographic Society of
Ceylon by Lionel Wendt. The society is housed at the Memorial Art
Centre built at his Residence, upon his untimely passing in the mid
’s.
Subjects and Courses
The Certificate Course in Applied Photography - conducted by the PSSL which is conducted in English comprising modules of ten () weekday or weekend sessions of theoretical aspects conducted at the well-equipped PSSL studio, and two () practical sessions through two field trips. Certificates are awarded to those who fulfill the course requirements including the tests conducted by the Society. Each group of participants upon completion of their program conduct an open exhibition of their works.
