The school was first started as a tuition class in a shed with poor children in the backwoods of Negombo and later it grew to the status of a registered fee levying private school and an assisted private school thanks to the efforts of Rev Fr Trevor Martin. In University Grants Commission selected Loyola College for the Award of “College with Potential for Excellence” and in the College was re-accorded a A+ Level by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
