SLIDA provides induction training to cadets of all island management services such as Sri Lanka Administrative Service (SLAS), Sri Lanka Accountants Service (SLAcS), Sri Lanka Planning Service (SLPS), Sri Lanka Education Administration Service (SLEAS) and Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS), apart from other services. Induction training programmes have a significant share in the SLIDA academic programmes in certain years when batches of large numbers are recruited to the all island services. In 2008 and 2009, SLIDA trained one batche of SLAS, one batch of SLAcS and two batch of SLPS. The induction training programs in general provide the cadets with an introduction to public service and basics of public administration, financial management, project management, governance, office management, public sector ethics, communication, political, social and economic issues, IT and language skills. Diploma in Public Administration is awarded to Cadets of SLAS who complete the Induction Training Programme successfully. Testing is mostly practice related assignments.
