Is Sri Lankan A/L Exam easier than Edexcel for Cambridge GCE?

Is Sri Lankan A/L exam easier than Edexel or Cambridge GCE ?

No. Sri-Lankan exam is harder because of the competition is high they will include hard questions. But the Cambridge and Edexcel are a bit easier. Questions have the same format and if you study some of the past papers you can easily pass the exam.

Comment author woman

I am sure it is easier than the Cambridge or th Edexcel.
what is important is that everyone does IGCSE and the Cambridge and the Edexcel.
And what is more important is that the universities in Sri Lankan too accept these degrees and not only the government syllabus for entry.

There is little point in spending money in overseas universities when Sri Lanka is hit with unemployment.
Keep money in. Invite professors from abroad, esp. the UK and other countries.

Sri Lankan AL Chemistry, Physics syllabus, content is higher than Cambridge and Sri Lankan AL Syllabus is well organized. Difficulty depends on your commitment

Comment author woman

Local one is easy. But due to competition became hard

This is the funniest comment I’ve ever read? First of all tell me what’s the exam you have done in your a/l z? Here, I’ve done both Local and Cambridge. First I’ve done locals in math stream (2017) I’ve got only 2s passes. After realising this exam is really tough. I switch to Cambridge. Plus I’ve done the exam in January in same stream. I ended up with 1A* 1A 2Bz

I hope you can get an idea about Locals. It spoils students brains. Locals papers are very hard plus marking scheme also very tough plus questions are indirect. Hard to realise at first what kind of answer the examiner expect.

So please don’t comment someone’s post like this if you don’t have any experience as I done both exams, Locals is the hardest.

Comment author woman

Well it's a matter of perspective.
In simple terms No. It's hard.

I've been lecturing for 7 years and have a pass rate of 100 percent.

Local A/Ls would suit you if you have a plan of studying at a local University.

However due to limitations on intakes and Z scores they make it relatively hard to get great results.

However on the other side if you have the financial means and a decent background in written English. I'll definitely recommend London.

Edexcel is the the easier one of the two.

It has both Local and international recognition. Ample amount of resources and it's way more organized than Locals.

You'll never see a London A/Ls student complain about something not in the syllabus being tested at the exam. However you will see a lot of Local students complain about issues where it was vague and sometimes not in the syllabus.

Hope this answer suffices.

Cambridge is difficult. edexcel and Sri Lankan exams are equally similar exams. But it depends on your stream that you are going to select.

Comment author woman

Absolutely not easier. As I have studied Sri Lankan AL and teaching that and both excel and Cambridge, Sri Lankan AL is so tough

Comment author woman

This is depend on the syllabus. Edexcel theory syllabus is very lesser than cambridge and local. but they have practical exam. Local and cambridge syllabus is more same. but need to tell its not easy.

Comment author woman

As far as i can see, cambridge is little difficult and too much comparing to the other too.

Comment author woman

Both Cambridge and Exexcel exams are much more easier than Local A/L. If you do have a good understating in English language London exams will be no big deal compared to Local Exams.

Comment author woman

Sri Lankan exams are tougher

Comment author woman

Sri Lankan A/L is hard, it is not easy compare to edexcel. But Cambridge exams are similar to Sri lankan exams, it is also hard.

Comment author woman

Cambridge exams are difficult than local and ed-excel exams. When its compared edexcel and local exams there is no huge difference between them. But its depend on the stream that you are going to select for A/L. Local syllabus commerce is the best option if you are not good at mathematics and science. It is little bit easy to manage.

Comment author woman

Sri Lankan A/L Syllabus is huge compared to London exams, more subject matter and more scope, accordingly you will find it more challenging than London exams.

Comment author woman

No. Sri Lankan exam is tough. Compared to Cambridge, Edexcel is easier. It is the Strategy UK exam follows.

Comment author woman

I think its wrong. According to my experience Srilankan local exams are harder than edexel exams. Why because we have limited universities in here. then few people can go to the university. that's why competition is very high. therefore exam papers so deep.

Comment author woman

You are wrong Some of the Cambridge Subjects are tougher than local a level.

Comment author woman

hey,
I did local O/Ls but I like to do A/Ls in London syllabus and I want to do it in commerce stream and tell me is it ok to do A/Ls in London syllabus and what is more suitable doing A/Ls in local or London syllabus?
Thank you

Comment author woman

Hi! I have done cambridge olevels but not local olevels i want to knowif it is a good idea to switch to local A/l because I want to enter a local university.

Comment author woman

Hi Rashenya,
I was in a big a question that can we do edexcel AL after doing local A/L ?? After reading your comment I got the answer. But the question is Can I do in different stream? I have done Local AL in Math stream and have got 1C 2S. Now I want to do biology as my AL subject which is qualified to get enter in Medical faculty. And What are the subjects I want to select ?

Comment author woman

Cambridge is very tough . I say because I have done both locals and Cambridge. You need high English proficiency and mark-grade limits are higher.

Comment author woman

A person without facing both types of exams cannot decide which is harder, just teaching does not seems

Comment author woman

i did edexcel o/l's and now im going to switch to local for a/l's (science).will it be hard for me to catch on it?basically will it be a hard?

Comment author woman

I want to know if it is okay to do Local English AL, after doing Cambridge OLs? Please reply soon as I need Advice real soon. Thank you.

Comment author woman

Hey, I am thinking of doing Cambridge or Edexcel syllabus for AL exams in science stream. Is it wise to do so? Are local AL easier than Cambridge or Edexcel? Please be kind enough to reply soon.

Comment author woman

No, Sri Lankan exams are harder when compared to Cambridge and Edexcel because they’ll keep the exam end of the 2 yrs and the competition is also high. While in Cambridge and Edexcel exams are kept according to chapters (They keep the exams by assigning chapter by chapter) and it’s also easier to score marks by deep studying.
Note : Definition should be memorized in Cambridge and Edexcel exams.

Comment author woman

it is better for you to do on Edexcel as those exams are world recognised and has a higher standard compered to local exams. Edexcel IAL are harder, standard and complicated compared to local examination though Edexcel exams are done through units.

Comment author woman

I am doing my A levels next year October (2022). I am planning on immigrating to Canada with student visa so is it better to choose Cambridge? if I am doing Cambridge I will do it 2022 May. Can I at least get 3 b passes?

Comment author woman

I am about to enter bio stream for A/Ls. Would it better if I do locals or edexcel?

Comment author woman

Local A/Ls are tougher than Cambridge & Edexcel. It iss simple to figure it out. Because of the competition, Local A/L papers are very tough and also examiners mark the papers strictly unlike Cambridge or Edexcel. If you got enough money you can easily do Cambridge and Edexcel. Needs English. That is all. Please go and compare syllabuses and past papers of Locals, Cambridge & Edexcel. do not try to make it look Cambridge & Edexcel are harder because those ones are not free.

Comment author woman

Hey, Militha do you think foundation is a good option?

Comment author woman

I think you better think what you are saying is correct or wrong with the fact of looking and comparing both papers

It isn't that local A levels are hard, it is that the way most of the local students have learned. There papers are definitely not hard at all (I have compared many with Cambridge AS and A Level)

Local A Level is not hard the students are tough with the questions, the questions go round that is it if you were to understand it carefully that is definitely lot of easier than Cambridge AS and AL In Cambridge A Level the questions are implied, you have to get the answer by thinking outside the box.

Cambridge A Level is harder than local A Level. Local A Level students say it is hard because they are pretty confusing with the questions given in the paper.

Comment author woman

i have cousins who boast about saying local papers are trash compared to London ones. searched their syllabus edexcel is not different from local syllabus. plus local paper marking and grading system is way more strict than this chapter based exam. only the ones who did a local exam would know

Comment author woman

do not do local A/Ls after doing Cambridge O/Ls as Local O/Ls are harder that Cambridge O/Ls. It is easier to do local O/Ls and then Cambridge A/ls. Therefore you might find the Local A/L syllabus much advanced if you do it after doing Cambridge O/Ls.

Comment author woman

Can I do Cambridge or Edexcel A/L after doing local O/L?
And What is easier- Cambridge or Edexcel A/l?

Comment author woman

I have done my O/Ls in local syllabus. And wish to do my A/Ls in science stream in London syllabus. Is the London A/L easier than local A/Ls? Will it be difficult to catch the London syllabus to me?

Comment author woman

If We got good results ( A*A*A*) in Cambridge, Do we able to enter into Cambridge University?

Comment author woman

I did local O/L's and now I am planning to do London Al's in science stream. Will it be difficult to study ? And also I wanted to study psychology so will it be okay to do London AL's ? And is it worth to be in Sri Lanka and worth to be a psychiatrist in Sri Lanka?

Comment author woman

Hi
Since u did local AL, did u again do edexcel A Level?
If so can u tell me how was it . Because I also want to change from local A level Bio stream to edexcel.
Is edexcel easy or hard than local? Plz can anyone tell me.?

Comment author woman

Hi,
I think Cambridge and Edexcel are harder, out of which Cambridge is harder. In Local exams if the kids memorize they can answer any question. But in London exams, you can't answer only by studying or memorizing the theory, because all the questions are practical and in MCQ no direct questions are given, you have to think about 2 or 3 theories to answer the questions they give. For example a question like this. There are two cells the have marked 2 parts in each of the cells. The question is, Which part is colored when you add iodine solution. To answer such a question, the kids must know that only Iodine is used to observe plant cells and the cell wall is fully permeable, where as the cell membrane is partly permeable, and that the animal cell doesn't have a cell wall. So the answer is the cell wall.
Thank you

Hi
What about edexcel physics and chemistry exam? is it harder than local syllabus or easy when comparing?

Comment author woman

Hi
I wanna ask a question. I've done my OL's in local syllabus and now I wanna do AL maths in London syllabus. So can I know it will be harder or what will happen? It will be not a problem right?
Can you please reply me

Comment author woman

Hey I just finished my local OLs
And I started edexcel ALs (bio stream) yesterday. And I find it somewhat easy and manageable. I went through some past papers, they weren't as hard as I expected them to be. And edexcel has the advantage of sitting for the exams separately based on units. So it is more organized. I've just started my edexcel ALs. Wish me luck

Comment author woman

Do we need a Good Cambridge O/L result to do Cambridge A/L?

Comment author woman

Bruh, Edexcel is way harder, they expect us to do o/levels way faster than local syllabus, I mean I am still in grade 9 and I can easily get a A in local as I already did o/levels of local with 2 years older people with only revising some past papers, I say Edexcel way harder
